Reuse advocate MY ECO was ahead of the plastic bag ban with its innovative MY ECO Reuse Program that encourages shoppers to reuse shopping bags by rewarding their eco-friendly behavior. The program is up and running at the Brookline Shaw’s.
To join the program, shoppers simply download the free MY ECO app to their smartphone and register, which includes selecting the school or charity to benefit from their reuse. Then shoppers take reusable bags every time they shop at Shaw’s or other participating retailers, scan the unique MY ECO QR code at check out, and the MY ECO app does the rest. Shoppers can track how many disposable bags have been kept from the waste stream, and how much money is accruing for their selected school or charity.
Nearly 200 schools in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York, are already receiving rewards from shoppers’ reuse activity, including the Edward Devotion Elementary School in Brookline, MA. Schools and charities must be registered with the MY ECO program to be eligible for donated funds.
